Summer 2024
Counselor In Training (CIT)
Welcome Letter

Welcome to Summer Camp 2024 with Coach Doug Academy! We are excited about this coming summer of campers and are glad you will be with us as a Counselor in Training. Counselors in Training learn leadership skills, public speaking, childcare techniques and safety procedures. It is a great foundation for any young adult about to enter the working world; and our programs allow kids a popular way to earn SSL Hours. We have ONE camp location this year — Tilden Woods Park! All camps run weekly Monday - Friday; and we ask that CITs make a commitment to attend the entire week of camp they are volunteering for. Camp will not run July 4th this year; other than that the 8 weeks of camp will be 5-day camp weeks.

pin_drop Location: Tilden Woods Local Park — 6800 Tilden Ln, Rockville, MD 20852
date_range First Week of Camp (Week 1): June 24th - June 28th
date_range Last Week of Camp (Week 8): August 12th - August 16th

Due to Montgomery County's restrictions, we sometimes limit the number of CITs per week. Please email info@coachdoug.net and coachdoug@coachdoug.net to confirm your selected week(s) and instructions will be given on how to register and confirm your volunteer spot. CIT positions are available for children ages 13 - 18. There is a registration process through ActiveMONTGOMERY for CITs. When you email, we will walk you through the process.

Before our CITs come to camp, we ask that they:

1. Email info@coachdoug.net to confirm which weeks / locations you plan to attend.
2. If outside the Hoover / Churchill cluster, check with their school SSL coordinator to validate their ability to recieve SSL hours for their hours with us this summer. Every CIT is responsible to do this validation; the organization we operate under for SSL hours is Montgomery County Department of Recreation - TIN 52-600980. This camp & Montgomery County have been pre-approved for many years at all local schools, you should not have any issues.
3. Speak to Coach Doug Academy about any requirements that need to be fulfilled.

When our CITs come to camp, we'll ask them to:

1. Arrive at 8:45am and plan to leave at 3:45pm; exceptions to this need to be communicated to Coach Doug in advance. Camp runs Monday - Friday unless holiday noted.
2. Complete and sign a Health Care Form (this will be emailed, but can also be picked up Monday in the morning and signed by the parent before leaving CIT); CIT MUST sign-in and sign-out on the Staff Sheet daily.
3. Review camp manuals when instructed to do so.
4. Wear white or black shorts if possible (we will loan a company shirt to you for the week). The shirt must be turned back in to Coach Doug Friday afternoon before departing for the week.
5. Wear sneakers or closed toe shoes (no sandals!).
6. Apply & bring sunscreen, bring water bottle, hat, bag lunch & snack (no refridgerators are available).
7. Complete your SSL form and present it Friday morning to Coach Doug. Take pride in your written work and the form you submit!
8. Keep texting or "hanging out" with other CITs to a minimum; always remember that campers look up to you and model your behavior.
9. Learn, make new friends & have fun!
